Then, starting Friday, northbound I-35 will be reduced to a single lane

between mile markers 190 and 202, in the Sandstone and Willow River areas.

Both projects involve concrete resurfacing. The Moose Lake-Barnum work should be complete by about mid-August, and the Sandstone-Willow River in fall.

In addition, roadwork on I-35 between Duluth and Cloquet is scheduled to start later this month and also will lead to lane closures during the summer.

While the I-35 construction is under way this year, seven digital signs will give drivers a heads up about travel times on the freeway.

Travel Notes: Business travelers spend less on food; energy efficiency at …

Spending on business travel continued to grow in 2011 and the biggest chunk of that money went to airfare and lodging costs, according to a new study.

But it seems that business travelers are spending a bit less on food.

The average lodging charge was about $89, up about 4 percent from 2010, according to the study. Together, airfare and lodging represented almost 54 percent of travel costs in the US

Meanwhile, the average food expense entry was about $38, a 4 percent decline compared with the previous year.

GALVESTON During 1907, Galveston termed its beach front as The Coney Island of the South. Multitudes of excursionists visited Electric Park, which was in its second season of operation on Seawall Boulevard. Chutes Park, Electric Parks immediate neighbor, opened for the first time, making Galveston an even more desirable stop for excursionists.

Chutes Park was built in the spring of 1907 on leased property in the northwest and southwest quadrants of Outlot 117. Indoor art fair with plenty of room

Local artist Ed Martin is bringing a different kind of art fair to Springfield. More akin to acasual, multi-artist gallery opening, Martins An Art Affair – Second Annual Juried Invitational Fine Art Show, takes place in the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15.

Martin, who has experienced the frustrations of small booths and weather-related catastrophes at outdoor art fairs, intentionally creates an artist-friendly space. Bank of England report reveals ‘aversion’ to SME lending

Banks are also continuing to encourage small businesses to use asset-backed forms of borrowing, rather than overdrafts, the report claims.

NLGS participants RBS, Barclays and Santander confirmed that lending criteria will be not be relaxed under the government-backed scheme, which could mean that some small businesses will still struggle to qualify for loans.

Furthermore, some of the banks participating in the NLGS, including Barclays and Santander, will not lend less than pound;25,000, although a spokesperson for Barclays said this limit could drop in the future.

Kennywood amusement park opens Saturday

Kennywood amusement park opened Saturday.

The 115-year-old park, known for its trio of historic wooden roller coasters, opened at 10:30 am

The park will open again the weekend of May 12-13, but wont open for daily operations until May 17.

Final preparations and testing are under way for an anticipated May 17 opening of Kennywoods newest thrill, The Black Widow.
